Apple vinegar: the super elixir

by | 21/04/15

Apple cider vinegar is my new passion. First, I started using it in salad dressings (mixed with avocado and water, shaken in a food processor – it's delicious!) and now it's also part of my natural cosmetics. I am increasingly surprised by the new ways I have found extremely useful to incorporate apple cider vinegar into my daily routine. It's effective for just about anything. Your skin, your hair, your home, and even your pets can all benefit from your qualities. Raw, organic, unfiltered and unpasteurized, apple cider vinegar is much more than a salad dressing!

1- It makes your hair shine

You can use apple cider vinegar to rinse your hair after using shampoo. The first time I tried it on I was impressed – I had the feeling of just leaving the salon after a good cut – my hair was light and shiny. I recommend that you recycle an empty shampoo bottle, then fill it with 1/2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and a cup of cold water. Apply the solution through your hair after washing 2 or so a week for incredible results.

If your hair is heavy, dull or even a little oilier, try washing it with 1/2 cup of baking soda instead of your usual shampoo and then apply the solution described above. This technique is known as in the well will eliminate insoluble residues like sulfates and leave your hair beautiful and silky. I usually do this twice a week and I'm loving the results.

2- Apple cider vinegar regulates your skin's pH

Dilute apple vinegar in two parts of water and spread the mixture over your face with a cotton ball to replace your current toner. I also add a few drops of lavender essential oil to this solution, because I love its aroma and also because it's great for rejuvenating the skin. You can do this overnight after washing your face or in the morning. Some of this solution can also be applied to the skin overnight to smooth blemishes or acne scars.

3- It helps in detox

As one of its main properties is to balance the ph of the body, apple cider vinegar promotes a total detoxification of the body. The ph changes induced by the acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar are mainly responsible for its benefits.

4- It helps to sharpen the silhouette

When the body ph is acidic, it is more prone to inflammation that is directly associated with weight gain. Some studies, although still small, have shown that some people have had the benefit of losing weight when using this elixir. It is also rich in phytonutrients such as pectin, as well as increasing the absorption of essential minerals present in the foods we eat. So, if you're looking to lose weight, try mixing 1-2 teaspoons with a glass of water or juice and take it on an empty stomach or before meals, or if you prefer, simply add it to your salad dressing.

When buying apple cider vinegar, avoid the very light and translucent varieties you normally find on supermarket shelves. Instead, look for an organic, unprocessed option. When you look through it, you may notice a substance that resembles a “floating spider web”. This is known as "mother" and indicates your vinegar is of good quality.

I have a patient who is taking a shot of apple cider vinegar and honey every morning and is feeling great. I'm ready to go deeper and experience all the benefits I'm entitled to. Is that you?

Hope this article was helpful!

I found organic apple cider vinegar with 'mom' and I drink it every day before breakfast and love how it makes me feel. My question is whether I can use regular vinegar. from the supermarket in the hair. I think organic is a little expensive to use like that.

Hi Clara! I bet you should start your day feeling really good! The common vinegar on the market is more processed than organic, unfiltered, and most of the time does not contain the “mother”, which is responsible for its benefits. If you don't want to spend a lot, dilute organic apple cider vinegar in water as described in the post, and use it once or twice a week. It will be cheaper than any really good hair care product you can find in salons or beauty supply stores! I'm spending a lot less on this since I started using these natural cosmetic options, I'm sure the same will happen to you!
      Thanks for the comment!

      Hi Nina!

If you can't find it on the market, you might find it in health food stores! I use the San Francisco brand, which is what I find most easily, but any organic brand is great!

      😉

Hi, I loved the tips, they're great!! The vinegar you use, does it have this “mother” in it? Do you consider it very good? Because I found two national brands, Montes Verdes, which is raw, not pasteurized and everything else, but it's not organic, and the São Francisco brand, which is organic, but I didn't find much information about its method of production.
    Thanks kisses!!!

    Good morning Dr.
I was told that organic vinegar must be in a glass bottle, is it true?
Why aki has the rosani for a modest price in a plastic bottle?

      hello Priscilla

Yes, it is best stored in glass as plastic can cause contamination with mineral derivatives such as bpa that are toxic 😉

      thanks for stopping by

Doctor, here in Brazil, all vinegars, organic or non-organic, are filtered, including the brand vinegar you use. When the vinegar is filtered, it loses a lot of its natural properties, which are beneficial to the body. a lot about a good vinegar in the Brazilian market but I couldn't find it. I use a Bragg brand, it's not filtered, it's raw, organic, unrefined, no dyes and with the “mother”. This vinegar is the most famous vinegar that has on the American market. It is cloudy, as it is not filtered. The best price I could find for this vinegar was on Biovea's website.

Thank you for sharing this information with us Dalton! I am always looking for the best cost-benefit option. Unfortunately we still have few options and importing through biovea has a higher cost than buying here, but I'll try this brand too 😉

Hello Fabiana, I'm glad you liked the tips here on the blog! My approach is based on solving the cause of the symptom, in this case, hair loss, as you said here, has an emotional origin, so I recommend seeking care aimed at treating this issue first, as psychological support and even yoga, to help alleviate stress and anxiety 😉

Hello Hosanna! Thank you for visiting and I'm very happy that you liked the text.

In general, it is recommended to use 1 tablespoon of apple vinegar to a cup of warm water, to alkalize and promote bowel health.
